Careers Department
It is the aim of Taunton School that all students upon leaving will be in a position to make confident, informed and reasoned decisions about their futures. The primary aim of the Careers Department is thus to provide all students with the knowledge and skills necessary to make such decisions about their career paths.
To that end, we have an extensive careers programme
starting from the 3rd Form onwards and first-class
resources to support that programme.
The Careers Department is situated in the Clark Center and is well stocked with information concerning Further Education courses, sponsorship opportunities and also a huge range of GAP Year activities.
All this material is constantly being updated in order to provide the latest and best information.
The Careers Department has a dedicated suite of computers that are linked to the Internet and also the ECTIS+ database which has over 72,500 Higher Education courses on it and all 6th Form student are shown how to use this system.
In addition each student is allocated a subject specific advisor who is able to guide, and advise, as important choices are made from the Lower 6th Year onwards.
We also have a well established work experience scheme for all members of the Lower 6th in order to broaden their knowledge of the work place.
5th Form pupils are given Careers advise during their PSHE lessons and they may also take part in Morrisby Tests, which provide suggestions regarding aptitude and interest in potential career fields.

Would you like to be a Gap Student at Taunton School?
Taunton School offers gap opportunities to both boys and girls from England and overseas.
Over the past few years we have had gap students from Australia. We need a very strong netballer who has played above school level. They will have the opportunity to play at a high level and will coach and umpire their own school team. We also look for 1 male gap student who is able to offer hockey at a high level and they will also have the opportunity to play club hockey and cricket. They will coach their own boys and girls hockey teams.
Students also work within the PE department of the school and will help with nursery swimming and a few hours of admin work per week. A lifesaving award is an asset. Our gap students have their own house on campus and all meals are provided. They become full members of the staff common room and have the chance to join in social activities.
Students have a ‘Gap Mum’ or mentor who will make contact before they arrive and also deal with any queries that parents or students may have. Gap students are paid on a monthly basis.
If you meet the above criteria and wish to be considered for a gap position at Taunton School, please send your C.V. together with the names of 2 referees, one from your school e.g. Headmaster/Housemaster and one from your netball/hockey coach.
Early applications are strongly advised.
