TPS Mike Ward - Deputy Headmaster

Mike Ward spent much of his early youth singing and middle youth playing sport, particularly Rugby and Cricket. He read Classics and Biblical Studies at Durham University and graduated in 1972. After studying for a PGCE at Exeter University, Mike moved to Northampton Boys' Grammar School for his first teaching post as Assistant Master teaching Latin, Greek and Divinity. After a year, Mike returned to Taunton School where he had spent a term on teaching practice.
During Mike's twenty-five years at Taunton Preparatory School, he has taught a number of subjects, mainly Latin, Classics and Religious Education. Sport has always been a big part of his life and Mike has been fortunate to have the opportunity to be involved in the games of the school. He has been in charge of the three major boys' games and has also coached Squash and Chess. The organisation of Cricket has been his greatest contribution over the years and outside the School he has run age group squads and been Chairman of the Somerset Schools' Cricket Association.
Mike was Housemaster of the boys' boarding house for 13 years before being appointed Deputy Head of Taunton Junior Boys' School, a position he retained when it amalgamated with Weirfield School for Girls in 1994.
