TPS Cubs Pack: Mrs Sally Small, who has kindly run our pack for the last 13 years, is stepping down at the end of this term.  We very much hope to find a replacement for Mrs Small so that this very popular and worthwhile activity can continue.  If any parents are willing to help, or knows of anyone who has an interest in, or experience of cubs, would they please contact the office.  Cubs currently meet on a Tuesday from 4:00-5:00pm but his timing can easily be altered.

MATCHES
From time to time we like to reprint the excellent guidelines produced by the Independent Association of Preparatory School regarding Matches.  We welcome parental support at all games fixtures but urge you to follow the guidelines:

Children develop differently, at different rates and react differently to the same pressures.
·      Don’t force an unwilling child to participate in sport; he or she is not playing to satisfy your ambitions.
·      Children and young people are involved in organized sport for their enjoyment –not yours.
·                Encourage your child to always play be the rules.
·      Teach your child that effort and teamwork are as important as victory so that the result of each game is accepted without undue disappointment.
·      Turn defeat into victory by helping your child work towards skill improvement and a positive sporting attitude.  Never ridicule or shout at your child for making a mistake or losing a competition.
·      Children learn best by example.  Applaud good play by your team and by members of the opposing team.
·      Don’t question publicly the official’s judgement, and never their honesty.
·      Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from children’s sporting activities.
·      Recognise the value and importance of coaches.  They give their time and resources to provide guidance for your child.  Set an example by being friendly to the parents of the opposition!
·      Emphasise enjoyment and fun.
·      Praise and reinforce effort and improvement.

All pupils are expected to be available for Saturday Matches.  Permission should be sought from the Headmaster if pupils wish to miss a fixture.

NATIONAL CHILDREN’S CHOIR
Auditions for the NCC will be held on Monday 5th November in TPS Music room.
Application forms can be downloaded from the internet.   Please feel free to come and discuss any issues that might be of concern with Mrs Hornsby or Miss Pink.

VENICE CHOIR TOUR
We would be delighted to sing the Venice programme in a short Concert in the Chapel [rather than the Arts Centre as published in the calendar] on Monday, 29 October at 7.00 pm.  Please come and bring any friends or family.

Refreshments will be served in the Arts Centre Foyer immediately after the performance.  The programme will not be an extensive one because the major focus of the choir singing involves services in St Marks Cathedral in Venice and Verona Cathedral rather than a full concert programme – so its quality not quantity!

A big thank you to the parents of the tour party for making often very complicated arrangements to ensure the children have been able to attend rehearsals.  Parents of children who are thinking of coming to Salzburg, Austria next year would be especially welcome to attend to hear about the choir tour.

MUSIC DEPARTMENT
There are vacancies for lessons in Oboe, Double Bass and Violin.  Instruments are available Free of Charge but lessons are charged.  Only consider this if you can commit yourself to practice.

YEAR 5 RESIDENTIAL TRIP TO WALES
Please can all parents be aware that the Year 5 Residential Trip to Wales, has been postponed until late February 2008.  Further details will be given nearer the time.
